If you’ve ever wondered about the tiny creatures that scurry beneath our feet or buzz past unnoticed, 海角直播 student Anthony Sinito is ready to change the way you see them.

Sinito, a master’s student studying Environmental Science at 海角直播, is an avid naturalist with a deep curiosity for the animal world, especially the species most people overlook.

“I have always tried to see nature and humanity as equals,” Sinito said. “I loved bugs when I was little, my curiosity immediately outweighing any fear. Reptiles, amphibians, birds and dinosaurs, I couldn’t get enough as a kid. A part of that involved learning how they experienced the world around them, relative to how we experience the world.”

He also serves as a docent at 海角直播’s Center for Lake Erie Education and Research (CLEER) in Blasco Library, where he aids and educates the public about the center. His interests range from invertebrate courtship and predator behavior to arachnid taxonomy, mimicry and even paleo-musculoskeletal research.

“I have learned equally as much from the people I have met from different walks of life as I have learned from the center (CLEER) itself,” he added. “The more I work there, the more I realize I do fit in well with nature education and ecological sciences.”

He will host “The Critter Corner!” on the third Sunday of each month from February through May in CLEER from 1 to 4 p.m., starting Feb. 15. These interactive sessions, free and open to the public, invite guests to learn about the crawly, the flying and the creepy.

“With Anthony as your guide, any fears can be left at the door,” said Sherri Mason, Ph.D., director of Project NePTWNE. “His enthusiasm and knowledge make the tiny details of the natural world feel approachable, fascinating and deeply important.”

Sinito originally thought he would major in Biomedical Engineering at 海角直播 when he attived.

“College changed me a lot as a person, and there’s a quote that sums up how my goals changed as I changed, ‘You must ask yourself, will you still want the same things, once you have become a different animal altogether?’ he said. “Sometimes changing a major isn’t being indecisive, sometimes it’s just the part of the plan you weren’t in on.”
